New Michael Jackson Album Being Compiled By Rodney "Dark Child" Jerkins

Michael Jackson left producer Rodney "Dark Child" Jerkins with a lot of unreleased material when he unexpectedly passed back in June of 2009. Rodney Jerkins was a long-time producer for Michael Jackson and the two had a strong personal relationship as well. Now, Rodney Jerkins is compiling a new Michael Jackson album using the unreleased tracks of new material that he produced with Michael Jackson. In a recent interview, Rodney Jerkins spoke about the project and the politics involved in releasing it. “You know there is a lot of red tape, but it's definitely going to happen.” Dark Child also discussed the different sides of Michael Jackson in the interview. Not very many people got full insight into the business mind of Michael Jackson as well as experience his personal side. “Michael was quiet with people he didn't know,” Jerkins said. “But Michael and I used to kick it in Miami and we kicked it in New York all the time...I knew a little about publishing when I came into the game at 16, but when I started working with Michael I was 20 and he taught me about buying publishing and acquiring a catalog at a young age."
Who will produce the best Michael Jackson album from his unreleased tracks? Rodney "Dark Child" Jerkins Michael Jackson's estate and the 273 old unreleased tracks?

It will be great producers like Rodney Jerkins involved with the project as well as new ones. I think final cut should be make by the likes of Jerkins, Temperton, Bruce Sweiden, Quency Jones...Guarantee we can hear some classic stuff.

I'm looking forward to every song that will be released, but I realize probably only ten percent are something Michael would have been interested in publishing, and that only after he'd worked the tracks over and over and over, laying the lead vocals and most of the background vocals, as well as the wonderful sound combination he always came up with. And even after all that, knowing Michael, it would not have come fully alive until he added a music video, dancing his way into our hearts. The true Michael Jackson experience is multi-layered and multi-dimensional. How will these music producers get around the fact that what made Michael's music great was his hands-on personal touch?

I would love if Rodney Jenkins did the album but I want to hear a track from Pharell Williams as well - he's obviously influenced by MJ's sound.

Max, I totally agree with you. An album and new hits will never be as magical as Michael would have wanted to be. Your right, without the video and live performances any new hits will never be the same. That being said, I am still looking forward to hearing new music that Michael was working on. It's a tough position to be in though because things will never be the same now that he's gone.

No disrespect to Mr. Jerkins, but this is likely not material MJ would want released or he'd have done so. Unfinished means it will be finished by others and therefore not Michael's work. Whatever end result will not be as Michael would have done it himself.
If it's released via $ony, I wouldn't buy it either, as $ony manipulated and abused MJ during his career and he'd never release anything new through them again. The estate (J. Branca) might - but I do not believe MJ himself ever would have signed any new deals w/ $ony. I won't give $ony money for anything MJ-related.
Sorry. That's just my personal two cents. To each his own.

everyone knows who was trying to murder michael. some ppl can play dumb or blame drugs or blame family or whatever... but we all know. I know, the family knows, mj's friends know... everybody f'n knows! It's painful to buy records from them. I know we all love mike, we collectively as a world feel depressed & ashamed & guilty & lonely without him, & so we wanna take it all back & show our appreciation & pretend like he can see it. we wanna support his estate & buy all his likeness to try & keep him with us. I get that. but at some point we HAVE TO STOP bull@#$%!ting each other & ourselves & freaking admit that by buying from Sony we are funding his enemies. as soon as we're ready to do that then maybe we can do something about what we all know happened... what we all saw happening since 1993.
