DMX Takes on the Music Industry

Rapper DMX has harsh word for the American music industry and its questionable business practices. In a recent interview DMX shared his analysis on the business and politics of the music industry.
According to DMX, "The highest paid artists get 26 cents off a dollar. They sell your shit for $20. C'mon dawg, you can do a little better than that."
He went on to say, “They sell a game (Def Jam Video Game "Vendetta") for 50 fucking dollars. These niggas come to me like ‘Yo, guess what X? We're gonna do a part 2 now.' Mind you, they use my music throughout the whole fucking game and I'm the hardest character to get to. So it's pretty much my shit. They say they're going to give me a $25,000 advance signing bonus and 2 cents off of every game sold. $50 fucking game and you're giving me 2 cents?”
DMX also talks about the challenge for artist to use their own music in ventures that does not include the record labels. “I can't use my own music without getting your permission.” This is rather interesting since labels re-coup all cost associated with the album before paying the artist.
