Will Phil Jackson Retire Or Chase Another Title?
Phil Jackson is has been bombarded with retirement questions since the Las Angeles Lakers finished their championship parade. Phil Jackson has coached Michael Jordan and Kobe Bryant, the two greatest basketball players ever, leading them to 11 total titles and making him the NBA coach with the most championship rings.
Phil Jackson also tied Celtic great and Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson becoming the only other person with 11 championship rings. In recent news conferences, Phil Jackson has cracked a few jokes directed at his bad knees when asked if he's leaning toward retirement. "I'm leaning against the wall," Jackson said in Oklahoma City, later joking, "I'm leaning against the podium," before another playoff game. Yesterday (June 23rd) he came out and said it outright. "I'm leaning towards retiring but I have not made up my mind."
The 64-year-old Lakers coach announced that he will be taking a series of medical tests. Phil Jackson said that he will complete the medical evaluations by today, and drive to his summer home in Montana to reflect for a week. After his week-long Zen retreat, Jackson will deliver his decision to Lakers owner Jerry Buss. "I'll take a week after the medical tests are done. It's hard not to feel like coming back when you have an opportunity to coach a team that's this good. It's just something I'm going to sit with and feel out and after I'm through talking about all the rest of it with the doctors, then I'll make the final decision."

Hell yeah, he should retire. Then, we won't have to worry about everybody else having to compete against the best players money can buy; and the best coach. This last chapmionship can be attributed to the fact that the Lakers also have a good front office. They realized how well Artest defended Kobe last year and they scooped him up. No doubt they will be looking to do the same thing this year, like Stodelmire or some other marque player.Their hope will be to win the championship again. Without Phil the rest of the league just might have half a chance. They might fall short this time. Go home Phil and rest your knees. All of that up and down on planes will only make them worse. Oh, in case it hasn't come clear to all of you reading this, " I hate the Lakers with a double passion." And, I make no apology for it.

I like Phil's reasoning. If he is able then he should come back to coach a team that is this good. Regardless. Championships are the ultimate but for a coach the journey has its rewards as well.
