Phoenix Suns Protest Arizona Immigration Law With Los Suns Uniforms
Phoenix Suns protested Arizona's new, controversial immigration law last night in their playoff Game 2 versus the San Antonio Spurs. The Suns wore new "Los Suns" uniforms in a controversial move to politically protest the new law. The move drew criticism from some fans, critics, and commentators who felt sports and politics shouldn't mix. The San Antonio Spurs were ready to join the protest with their own "Los Spurs" uniforms but they didn't receive their uniforms in time for the game. The uniforms were intended to commemorate Cinco De Mayo but served a double-purpose in the wake of the controversial new law. The Suns won the game 110-102 to take a 2-0 lead in the second round playoff series. "It was a great win for us," said Suns coach Alvin Gentry. "It was about as gritty a win as we've had since I've been around here."
