Katy Perry Tries To Explain Taking 'Blasphemous' Twitter-Shots At Lady Gaga
Pop star, Katy Perry, almost set off the female pop version of an East Coast/West Coast beef between herself and Lady Gaga last week after tweeting about Lady Gaga's visual treatment for her new single 'Alejandro'. The video in question has one scene where Lady Gaga is dressed up as a hyper-sexual nun, who in the end gets ravaged by muscle-bound men in thongs (pop culture is great, isn't it?). Just hours after the video was released, Katy Perry tweeted the following comment:
“Using blasphemy as entertainment is as cheap as a comedian telling a fart joke.”
Uh oh! Was Katy Perry taking shots at Lady Gaga for such a blasphemous scene? Well... kinda, sorta, potentially. In a recent radio interview, Katy Perry told the host: “Everybody was assuming that I was directing [the tweet] completely towards her and if I was directing something I would write their [twitter username],” she said. “Lately I’ve just been seeing some things that are kind of like, I don’t know, in my own personal feelings, a little bit like not something I would do I guess.”
Katy Perry tried to course-correct by name-dropping Madonna and her own fiance Russell Brand as people who also use blasphemy as tools for entertainment. She also then attempted to respond to critics who clearly state that Katy Perry was being hypocritical for doing the same thing (kissing girls and just overall trying to send her audience into pop culture shock), to which she reponds:
“most of the time — you can disagree or agree — spirituality and sexuality are two separate things and then when you decide to put them into the same subject, it gets interesting.”
And finally Katy Perry tries to smooth things over with the obvious attempt at claiming that she's “one of the biggest Lady Gaga fans.”
Meh! An east coast/west coast beef would've been more interesting.
