Janet Jackson Shares Lessons Learned From Michael's Passing With Gotham Magazine
Janet Jackson - Ms. Jackson, if ya nasty - is gracing the next cover of Gotham magazine. Between the sheets, Janet, talks about Michael Jackson, her new album and even a new book that she's soon to be releasing. Peep more of the interview below:
On what she’s taken from Michael’s death: “When you hear people say life goes on, it’s really the truth. You can’t stop living. It becomes a part of you. I feel a bit selfish because there are times I feel I shouldn’t be doing this, but I enjoy my work and I have to keep doing it. I have to keep my life going. There are days that are harder than others.”
On her New Year’s resolutions: “I want to learn a language. I haven’t decided which, but it’s between French, Spanish and Italian. I also want to get closer to God.”
On her new album: “It’s going to be a little different. The writing is about life experiences. There’s a part of me that’s craving escapism, which is a sense of wanting to keep on moving with my work but also of coming to terms with reality. So I think it will be upbeat and light.”
On her new book: “I hope it’s inspiring for all ages. I’m talking about weight loss, confidence, self-esteem—especially in your youth. It’s not an autobiography, but there are little anecdotes that I give here and there from my childhood all the way to the present that I thought would be interesting and helpful to share.”
On what she loves about New York: “Everything. I love the energy–the creative energy. I’ve been here for 12 years and I will be here for the rest of my life.”

I find it quite telling that Miss Janet does not even mention that she might even consider spending some of her time helping out her 79 year old motherwith Michael's very young children.

Why would Janet mention that? She doesn't have to broadcast to the world that she is helping with mikes children. Janet has always been private. If you want to hear about every detail of Micheal's kids life go like for a Latoya Jackson interview. But forreal Michael fans are insane. You won't let the man go and you want to make his whole family out to be monsters. Well Janet has stood by Micael through everything and has never turned her back on him even when he refused the family help. R.I.P Micheal. And God Bless Janet. I wish nothing but the best for her.

I agree with you Nadia. Janet not discussing Mike's children publicly means nothing. They don't need to be brought into the spot light every time a family member is interviewed. The details of Janet's family interactions are her business, not ours. She's a private person and I'm sure she's doing what she needs to do. To add, the children's grandmother lives in a house with other family members, including her eldest daughter, Rebbie, Janet's sister. The grandmother is not alone caring for young children. Michael's children will be fine. R.I.P. Michael. God bless you Janet. I also wish her nothing but the best.

Twisted logic here, Ross. I mean no offense, but Cherubim is disrespecting the love that Janet has for Michael's children. Ross, you're essentially saying it's O.K. to question Janet's love but not Cherubim's love. That makes NO sense what so ever. It's easy to comment and judge the feelings and actions of others especially when they (Cherubim, Ross or any of us) bare NO responsibility ourselves for the care of SOMEONE ELSE'S children. I would also like to note that the critism that your piling on Janet, you wouldn't allow anyone to pile on Michael. Don't do to Janet what was done to Michael for so many years. None of us know Janet's heart. Give her the benefit of the doubt. I hope you understand what I'm saying here.

Janel is right. Life goes on and we cannot dwell on the past. Michael when he was alive did enjoyed his life, children, and work. He's moved on to the next world. Janet still in this world and we have to move on and live until the time we go and join our loved ones that has gone on before us.

she is a very graceful and caring person. she is soft spoken but has never wavered on her love for michael.

If she's all about herself, then why has she stood with Michael throughout the years? She supported him and stood by her brother's side during his trial 5 years ago and has tried to intervene in his chemical dependency issues. Also, she very rarely spoke about him publically during his life, which is a good thing by the way, not a bad thing. Those aren't the actions of a selfish person. However, you are entitled to your opinion.

Janet is a beautiful women of dignity, compassion & creativeness. She has the right to say what she wishes. If she has mentioned helping with Michael's children, it gives reassurance that they are cared for & loved. She would no way exploit his children and disrespect their privacy.

This is silly! Michael was Janet's brother! Why can't she grieve for him in private? Why must she be expected to comment on her brother's death every time someone talks to her? Michael was family to her...think about it. Would YOU want to talk to the world about the heartbreaking loss of one of your siblings for the rest of your life? Probably not! Let Michael rest in peace, and let Janet & the rest of the Jackson family grieve for Michael in their own ways, in private - and just as Janet is doing, let us all move forward with the beautiful memory of Michael and continue to carry forward his legacy of love.

He was not a selfish person, he would have wanted you to continue with your life and career. The Lord will see you thru all this, hang in there this too shall pass.I hope someday you make a gospel CD, Michael wanted to do one but he never got the chance. His mother was with him EVERYDAY and his siblings stood with him when they could, including Janet. It sounds like I need to remind you that the trial was 5 months long. I doubt that any of them could take a vacation from their obligations for an entire 5 months.
