Conan O'Brien Potentially Banished From All Television By NBC Over Jay Leno Issue
Conan O'Brien's television shenanigans could cost him a lot more than a few laughs at his expense. According to one report, NBC could execute a clause in his contract that could prevent him from being on television for over 3 years. According to his monologue last night, Conan O'Brien jokingly quipped:
"Hi, I'm Conan O'Brien, NBC's 'Employee of the Month. There's a rumor that NBC is so upset with me, they want to keep me off the air for three years. My response to that is, if NBC doesn't want people to see me, just leave me on NBC.No matter what happens, it's been a real honor to sit in the same chair as Steve Allen, Jack Paar, Johnny Carson, Jay Leno, and Jay Leno"
Apparently, O'Brien has another 2.5 years left in his contract with NBC and the network, could get their lawyers to enforce the clause another year after that. It looks like Conan O'Brien's 'People Of Earth' letter to the network really pissed some executives off. In particular this statement:
"After only seven months, with my 'Tonight Show' in its infancy, NBC has decided to react to their terrible difficulties in prime-time by making a change in their long-established late night schedule."
NBC's president Jeff Zucker took those statements to heart, because he responded saying "He let me down," when speaking of Conan O'Brien. Also, referring to the Tonight Show as 'an astounding failure by Conan.'
YIKES! Well, even if Conan is banished from television, there's always the Internet... HEY, he can come work for DimeWars, there's an employee here who's likely to get the boot anyway ;)
