Tasha Smith Hopes To Take On Roll As Donna Summer
Actress Tasha Smith has become a household name while playing fictional characters created by filmmaker Tyler Perry.
The star of the TBS sitcom “For Better or For Worse” and Perry’s
“Jumping the Broom,” “Why Did I Get Married” film and its sequel says
she’s got just a real person in mind for a future project.
Namely the late Donna Summer.
In an interview with theGrio’s, Smith says she’d love nothing better than to play the late Queen of Disco in a movie biopic.
“I want to play Donna Summer,” she said.
Smith said it would be “a dream role” for her, but confessed that she doesn’t sing.
“But neither did Angela Bassett when she played Tina Turner,” Smith said.
Smith’s career rise in Hollywood has been a meteoric one following a
tough upbringing in Camden, N.J., where she and her twin sister were
raised by a single mother. Smith soon succumbed to the temptation of
drugs, she said during an interview with Ebony Magazine earlier this
year.
“I used to do drugs every day,” she said. “I used between the ages of 19 and 25.”
She confessed to a routine that consisted of smoking “two packs of
cigarettes a day”, having “[marijuana] every day” and “[using] cocaine
three times a week.
Now a devoted Christian, Smith attributed her victory over drugs to “the grace of God.”
She is quick to credit Perry for his role in helping her become one
of America’s most recognizable African-American actresses, but is
clearly looking to expand her professional horizons. Source

Robert Griffin III Makes Strong Debut As Redskin

Robert Griffin III might not throw another touchdown or perform anywhere like he did Sunday. But he will always have Sunday.
And no one will forget it any time soon, either, as his 320-yard,
two-touchdown, no-turnover effort in the Washington Redskins’ 40-32
victory in New Orleans against the Saints.
Griffin was named the NFC Player of the Week, the first rookie to receive that honor. Ever.
But that’s what goes with coming into a hostile Mercedes Benz Dome
against a supposed-to-be tough Saints defense and commanding the game
from start to finish, as a top-flight veteran would.
The No. 2 overall draft pick completed 19 of 26 passes (and had at
least three dropped) and no interceptions in Sunday’s victory — making
him the first player in league history to amass 300-plus yards passing,
two or more passing touchdowns and no interceptions in an NFL debut.
Griffin is also the first rookie quarterback to throw for at least 300 yards and win a season opener.
On top of that, Griffin is featured on the current edition of Sports Illustrated with the headline “Power Surg3.”
For all he did in ringing up 40 points on the Saints, fans, observers
and teammates alike were equally impressed with the way Griffin handled
the moment. Read more here.

Jennifer Lopez Buys Stake In NuvoTV Cable Network
Jennifer Lopez, the actress-singer who put her cross-cultural appeal
to use in movies such as “Selena” and “Maid in Manhattan,” is joining
NuvoTV, the English-language cable network aimed at Latino viewers.
Lopez, 43, and her Nuyorican Productions will contribute programming,
work on strategy and assist in marketing the eight- year-old channel,
she said an interview. In exchange, she will receive a minority stake,
according to an e-mailed statement that didn’t disclose other financial
terms.
“I’m going to be a creative executive and part owner who will be very
involved with every aspect of the network,” Lopez said. “Development,
production, marketing, I’ll be involved on every side of it so we hit
all the right points.”
With Lopez, Los Angeles-based NuvoTV gains a well-known personality
to help position the network to stand out as bigger media companies,
including Walt Disney Co.(DIS), Univision Communications Inc. and
Comcast Corp. (CMCSA), begin targeting the same growing audience.
Lopez’s involvement will extend to meeting with advertisers and pay-TV
operators to expand distribution, Chief Executive Officer Michael
Schwimmer said in an interview. Source

President Obama Responds To Nicki Minaj Rap About Mitt Romney
President Obama has something to say about Nicki Minaj’s rap to vote for his opponent Mitt Romney in November’s election. On the “Mercy” track Nicki rapped, “I’m a Republican voting for Mitt Romney, you lazy bit*hes are f—–g up the economy.”
The lyric was an easy standout for the rapper’s fans who quickly called her out on the lyric. The “Beez in the Trap” rapper never responded to the criticism but as it turns out she’s not even registered to vote! Music critics were on the other side of the fence not giving much credence the lyric. President Obama isn’t either.
In a phone interview with Power 95.3 the president was asked about rap,
“Yeah, I’m not sure that’s actually what happened. But I think she had a song on there, a little rap that said that but she likes to play different characters. So I don’t know what’s going on there.”

Jennifer Hudson Tells Oprah She Forgives Her Family's Murderer

It has only been four years since Jennifer Hudson’s mother,
brother, and nephew were murdered by her former brother-in-law William
Balfour, but the Dreamgirl admits that she forgives him and actually
feels sympathetic towards him.
“For the most part, it’s not his fault,” the 30-year-old award
winning R&B singer told Oprah during her interview on Oprah’s Next
Chapter. “It’s like what he was taught and how he was brought up … he
never had a chance.”
Oprah dug deeper as she brought out Jennifer’s sister and Balfour’s
ex-wife, Julia, who ignored the constant threats that her husband made
towards her family.
Although it doesn’t seem as if Jennifer holds her sister responsible
for their family’s death, Julia admitted that she often blames herself
for the tragic murder of her family.
“What if I hadn’t married him,” Jennifer’s sister asked herself.
“That was his promise. If you leave me, I’m gonna kill you. I’ll kill
your family first. I left and he did what he said he was gonna do.”
Now that Balfour has been ordered to remain behind bars for the rest
of his life, the former American Idol contestant said she can finally go
visit the grave sites again.
“I haven’t been to the grave site since we buried them,” said the
soulful singer from Chicago. “But now I want to go because I feel like
we’ve accomplished this. We’ve done this. We got justice for you.” Read more here.

Michael Vick Picks Up Game In Time For Win Against Brown
Michael Vick has had bigger wins in his career. But perhaps none was
more needed than Sunday against the pedestrian Cleveland Browns.
The Eagles were supposed to handle the Browns with ease, and yet,
primarily because Vick was awful with four interceptions, Cleveland held
a late-game lead. But Vick rebounded before it was too late,
engineering an 11th-hour drive that produced a 4-yard touchdown pass to
Clay Harbor with 1:18 left, saving the Eagles, 17-16.
Mostly, Vick saved himself from an avalanche of criticism.
”When you throw interceptions,” Vick said, ”it’s one thing. But when
you throw an interception for a touchdown and it changes the dynamic of
the game, you look up at the scoreboard and now you’re losing, you feel a
sense of dissatisfaction.
”I have a responsibility to this team and that’s to lead them, not to hurt them.”
Vick hurt the Eagles most when he threw his fourth interception early
in the fourth quarter and it was returned 27 yards for a touchdown by
Browns linebacker D’Qwell Jackson, who somersaulted the final few yards
into the end zone as Cleveland fans flipped out in the stands thinking
an upset was possible.
But with the Eagles down 16-10, Vick marched them 91 yards for the
go-ahead TD on his career-high 56th pass. Before that, the superstar
showed that missing all but 12 snaps during the preseason because of
injuries was indeed a big deal. Via: Atlantablackstar.com

Jada Pinkett Smith Stuns On The Red Carpet In Toronto
Will and Jada Smith and their two talented children shone on the red carpet for the premiere of “Free Angela and All Political Prisoners” at the Toronto International Film Festival.
Will and Jada have lent their considerable influence to the picture, which tells the story of
activist Angela Davis and her imprisonment in the 1970s. Will Smith is a
big admirer of the project’s director, Shola Lynch. The Smith family
posed for pictures on the red carpet with both Lynch and Davis herself,
the retired University of California Santa Cruz professor and two-time
Communist Party Vice Presidential candidate who is one of the most
enduring symbols of the Black Power Movement in the 1060′s with her
trademark Afro. The Afro is now curly and reddish-gray, but Davis still
looks like the woman who became a lightning rod for conservatives 40
years ago.
Sporting a curve-hugging white backless dress,
Jada seemed to be enjoying the red carpet most of all as she cavorted
with adoring fans, posing for pictures and signing autographs. Read more here.

Woman Claims To Be Michael Clarke Duncan's Daughter
It has been less than a week since Michael Clarke Duncan passed away and one woman has already stepped forward in an attempt to get her hands on his money.
Marquea (Marqay) Ambrose, a 32-year-old woman from Chicago, claimed to be Duncan’s daughter despite the fact that she hasn’t spoken to him in over ten years.
If Ambrose is Duncan’s daughter, she seems to be the only member of his family that isn’t in mourning and seems relatively unaffected by the passing of the man she claims is her father.
One source told RadarOnline.com, “It was the day he died that she started calling his mother saying ‘I want what’s mine’ and trying to get money from her.”
Sources also confirmed that although Duncan did date Ambrose’s mother, he “believed he was not her father.”
“The only thing that really bothers me about him passing is that we didn’t fix,” Ambrose told Chicago’s WFLD-TV.
Duncan’s family, on the other hand, is convinced that if there really was a relationship to be mended between Ambrose and the “The Green Mile” actor, she would have at least tried to contact the family during the 53 days he was in the hospital.
