Cliff Lee Disses Yankees For Phillies
Cliff Lee has surprised Major League Baseball and signed a 5 year, $120 million deal that includes a vesting option for a sixth year with the Philadelphia Phillies. The news of Cliff Lee migrating to the Phillies effects the Texas Rangers, New York Yankees, and the Chicago Cubs. The Cubs were never a legitimate suitor for Cliff Lee, however; their number one priority remains trading for Matt Garza. Now that the Yankees and Rangers have missed out on Cliff Lee, Their plan B most likely includes trying to trade for Matt Garza as well.

Derek Jeter Gets Mad With Yankees Over Negotiations
Derek Jeter has shown he can get angry over baseball. Rather than his usual vague media responses that hides what is really going on in the Yankee shortstop head, Jeter let it be know that the negotiations with Yankees over his free agent status, disturbed him. Derek Jeter did not like how the negotiations played out in the public eye.
"I know they said I had an ego. People said I'm greedy. The perception was greed, when it's a negotiation. I think it all started with my 'salary demands,' which still cracks me up. What position do I have to demand a salary? Give me this, or what? Where am I going? ... I was pretty angry about it, but I've let that be known. I was angry about it because I was the one that said I didn't want to do it. I was the one that said I wasn't going to do it. To hear the organization tell me to go shop it when I just told you I wasn't going to - yeah, if I'm going to be honest with you, I was pretty angry about it."

Derek Jeter Will Get Overpaid $60 million By Yankees
Derek Jeter, now a free-agent shortstop, may have had a very bad 2010 season offensively, but he is going to have a good time next year regardless of how he performs. ESPN New York is reporting that Jeter will likely get a three-year offer from the Yankees that is worth between $45 million and $60 million. A source told the site...
"The Yankees are going to overpay him. The question is, how much are they going to overpay him?"
Because every other MLB team is sure that Jeter is sticking with the Yanks, no one has expressed interest in signing him.

Will Cliff Lee's Rest Affect His World Series Start
Cliff Lee hasn't thrown in a game since October 18, when he defeated the Yankees! However the Ranger's picture is set to start Game 1 of the World Series on Wednesday evening, after 8 days of rest. Eight days is far more rest than that to which a starting pitcher is accustomed. The question is can Tim Lincecum and the Giants hope that Cliff Lee will be rusty and off his game?
To answer that question, we turn to Cliff Lee's Baseball-Reference player page. And the short answer is that, no, they cannot. Lee this year on 6+ days of rest:
5 starts, 39 innings, 19 hits, 6 walks, 37 strikeouts, 1.15 ERA
Compare that 1.15 ERA to his 3.63 ERA on four or five days' rest and the only logical conclusion is that getting extended rest makes Cliff Lee more than three times as good as he already is. The Giants therefore have a lot to worry about since Cliff Lee will be getting his eight days rest.

Tyler Colvin Pierced In The Chest By Broken Bat
Tyler Colvin, a Chicago Cubs outfielder, is in stable condition at a Miami hospital after he was hit in the upper chest by a piece of a maple bat during Sunday's contest in Florida. The bat shattered during catcher Welington Castillo's at-bat during the Cubs vs Marlin game in Florida on Sunday. Colvin was running down the third-base line when a piece of the bat punctured his chest. The portion of the bat hit him in the upper right side of the chest. It punctured but did not stick in his chest. Doctors are taking X-rays on Colvin's chest, and there's a suture on the wound. The team said there was minimal external bleeding. Colvin was being treated with a chest tube to prevent a collapsed lung.
"I feel really bad about it," Castillo said. "It wasn't on purpose, but he's my teammate. I hope he's getting better."
Colvin went 0-for-1 with a walk and an RBI in the Cubs' 13-3 win. The right fielder is expected to miss the rest of the season. He hit .254 with 20 homers and 56 RBIs in his first year in the majors.
