Anderson Silva Loses The Sonnen Battle, But Wins The War
MMA fighter, Anderson Silva, walked into UFC 117 an unblemished champion, who, before this last bout had only been hit a total of 208 times in eleven of his previous matches combined. However, the bout with Chael Sonnen was to change all that for the Brazilian fighter. The match, which lasted 21 minutes had Anderson Silva being on the wrong end of a total of 289 blows, 270 of which were ground strikes, while only delivering a whimpering 29 strikes himself. Entering the final round, Anderson Silva was down on all score sheets: 40-35, 40-36 and 40-37. However, in the UFC, it ain't over 'till it's over. In the drawing end of the last round, Anderson Silva was able to grapple Chael Sonnen into a submission hold and emerge victorious:
