Spike Lee Refuses To Cheer For Brooklyn Nets
So, being the proud Brooklyn-born and Brooklyn-bred New York Knicks fan that he is, how can Spike Lee not shift his allegiance to the new Brooklyn Nets?
Well, easy, according to Lee, one of the most recognizable filmmakers in the world – and the most recognizable Knicks fan.
“I wish I had a dollar for every time people ask me that — I could finance another film,” Lee said to the New York Times. “No, no and no. Can’t do that. Can’t.”
The new Nets arena is no more than 10 minutes from where Lee was raised in the Fort Greene section of Brooklyn. And still, he cannot muster whatever it takes to pull for the Nets.
“I am orange and blue, baby,” he says in of the Knicks colors. “Orange and blue.”

Spike Lee Making Documentary on Michael Jackson
What do you get when you pair one of the most compelling documentarians in the film business with perhaps the greatest entertainer of the last century? You get film-making magic. That’s what’s in store with Spike Lee’s documentary on Michael Jackson and the making of the “Bad” album, which celebrates its 25th anniversary this year.
Lee said he got unlimited access to Michael’s vaults, providing him with priceless footage of the actor at work and even behind-the-scenes film that Michael took himself.
“We have footage in this documentary that no one’s ever seen, stuff that Michael shot himself, behind-the-scenes stuff,” Lee said in an interview Monday with AP. “We had complete access to the vaults of Michael Jackson. … He wrote 60 demos for the ‘Bad’ record. Only 11 made it. So we got to hear a lot of that stuff, too, so it was just a great experience.”
He added: “You don’t have to be a Michael Jackson-head to enjoy this.”
Lee’s documentary is expected to be released later this year as part of a slew of activities and celebrations to mark the 25th anniversary of “Bad,” Michael’s follow-up to “Thriller,” still the top-selling album of all time. Jackson’s album is being rereleased on Sept. 18 with additional tracks, a DVD and other bonus material.

Mike Tyson And Spike Lee Working On TV Project
Hangover star Mike Tyson is reportedly working with Spike Lee and the creator of Entourage to produce a show based on Tyson's early life as a boxer.
Entourage creator Doug Ellin has already struck success as he portrays actor Mark Walberg's early life in Entourage and wants to do the same for Mike Tyson.
Ellin tells Deadline.com, "That's when Mike asked me, why don't (you) do with my life what we did with Mark's life. The initial idea was Entourage meets The Wire, an edgy story about an up-and-coming boxer and his crew that is much more dramatic than Entourage."
Spike Lee will take on directing duties. Mike Tyson's new show is called "Da Brick", no release date has been given.

Spike Lee Blast George Bush At Peabody Award Ceremony
Famed film director Spike Lee blasted former President George Bush at the Peabody Award ceremony. Spike Lee joined Sir Patrick Stewart and actor Ray Romano in New York Monday night at the Annual Peabody Awards.
Spike Lee was honored for his second documentary on the devastating flood that took place New Orleans. The second documentary was titled, "If God Is Willing and da Creek Don't Rise" and the first documentary was called, "When the Levees Broke Right: A Requiem in Four Acts."
Spike Lee tells the Huffington Post at the event,
"Under the direction, of the chief of command, President George Bush, W., it took the United States government five days to come to rescue of its American citizens," Lee told The Huffington Post at the Peabody Awards ceremony. "Five days. And I know he's written a book and whatnot, but no one's ever explained, to this day, why it took five days. In fact, we talk about, in the first one, there was a typhoon in Sri Lanka, and we were there in 2 1/2 days, we were there, and that's half way around the world, and yet it took five days for the United States to show up in New Orleans, and to this date, it's never been explained why."
What do you think of Spike Lee's documentary work?

Tyler Perry - Tyler Perry Doesn't Mince Words Firing Back At Spike Lee
Tyler Perry - Mega movie producer and director Tyler Perry finally responded to Spike Lee and he did not mince his words.
I’m so sick of hearing about damn Spike Lee. Spike can go straight to hell! I am sick of him saying, ‘This is a coon, this is a buffoon.’ I am sick of him talking about black people going to see movies. This is what he said: ‘You vote by what you see’ — as if black people don’t know what they want to see. I am sick of him. He talked about Whoopi, he talked about Oprah, he talked about me, he talked about Clint Eastwood. Spike needs to shut the hell up!
What they don’t understand is this, and this is what I want to make perfectly clear to everybody, especially black people: I’ve never seen Jewish people attack Seinfeld and say, ‘This is a stereotype.’ I’ve never seen Italian people attack The Sopranos, I’ve never seen Jewish people complaining about Mrs. Doubtfire or Dustin Hoffman and what they were doing in Tootsie. I never saw it. It’s always black people, and this is something that I cannot undo.
It has taken Tyler Perry quite some time to respond to Spike Lee - does he address some valid points?

Spike Lee Ecstatic To Meet His White Cousins On TV Show

Director Spike Lee is the latest "Who Do You Think You Are" subject to get a surprise. Spike has a white cousin. Lee explored his roots on 'Who Do You Think You Are?' last night on NBC. Last night was the season finale of WDYTYA and it brings us some very emotional moments with Spike as he confronts a number of issues – slavery, meeting a white cousin and more. There are two previews for the episode embedded below. The Malcom X director traced his ancestry in Atlanta, Georgia, confronting a number of issues including slavery and meeting a new relative with the help of archivist Melvin Collier. The director wanted to get information about his great great grandmother Lucinda Jackson, who was born into slavery and died in 1934. Lee discovers that he could be a descendant of a slave owner, and meets Guinevere Grier, a white woman who is his cousin twice removed. Lee also finds out that his great great grandfather Mars owned 80 acres of land after he was freed of slavery. He visits his great great grandfather's land and buries a necklace with the name 'Mars' written on it, that Lee wore in 'She's Gotta Have It' as a tribute. Spike Lee takes an emotional journey to his ancestor's land down in Georgia.

Tyler Perry Responds To Spike Lee Calling His Characters 'Coons'
In a recent interview, Spike Lee refers to Tyler Perry’s TBS sitcoms Meet the Browns and House of Payne as coonery and buffoonery. Tyler Perry responded to Spike’s comments in his interview on 60 Minutes by implying that Spike Lee and those who agree with him have lost touch with the dramatic realities being faced in the African-American community. He says in his best 'proper English' accent "I'm sure that there are some other parts of the African American community that say 'who does he think he is speaking of'"...
SMH, it would be so much better if Spike Lee and Tyler Perry would come together and make movies TOGETHER. Instead, they're following rappers with their New York vs. Atlanta Beef? Is there any hope for the future??

Spike Lee Compares Tyler Perry To Amos n' Andy

Spike Lee did a Black Enterprise interview and expressed his disdain for
buffoonery and coonery. Tyler Perry's "Meet the Browns" and "House of Payne"
were prime examples. Spike said,
“We’ve had this discussion back and forth. When John Singleton [made 'Boyz in
the Hood'], people came out to see it. But when he did ‘Rosewood,’ nobody showed
up. So a lot of this is on us! You vote with your pocketbook, your wallet. You
vote with your time sitting in front of the idiot box, and [Tyler Perry] has a
huge audience. We shouldn’t think that Tyler Perry is going to make the same
film that I am going to make, or that John Singleton or my cousin Malcolm Lee
[would make]. As African-Americans, we’re not one monolithic group, so there is
room for all of that. But at the same time, for me, the imaging is troubling and
it harkens back to ‘Amos n’ Andy.’” Even if Tyler may not make films like Spike, do you agree also that the images
are hurting more than helping?

Spike Lee isn’t Rich-Rich – And May Be On Welfare
What?! Spike did an interview in ’08 that has been rehashed for his UK release of "Miracle at St Anna". In case you missed it, Spike Lee laments about the state of his wealth explaining that even if he can afford the luxuries of a Manhattan townhouse, Martha’s Vineyard home and the kids in private school, - "It's not rich rich!"
Spike took it further saying, "Rich is Spielberg. Lucas. Gates. Steve Jobs. Jay-Z! Bruce Springsteen. I'm not complaining. But that's money. Will Smith. Oprah Winfrey - that's a ton of money. Compared to them, I'm on welfare!"
I will give Spike a pass on this one, because there is a difference between being rich and wealthy – though I don’t think 50 is quite there yet – Jay-z may be approaching there.
