Kobe Bryant Overcomes Bad Knee To Score 40 As Los Angeles Lakers Crush Phoenix Suns
NBA superstar Kobe Bryant scored 40 points as the Los Angeles Lakers routed the Phoenix Suns 128-107 in LA. Even with the bad knee and several minor injuries, Kobe remains one of the most dangerous offensive threats in basketball playoff history.
Lamar Odom contributed 19 points and 19 rebounds, ans Pau Gasol scored 21 points in the decisive Lakers victory. Kept from practice with injuries to the knee, ankle, finger, and back, Kobe rarely took the court this week to prepare for the Suns. "I practice so much during the season," Bryant said. "In the offseason, I work a lot. To take a week off, I'm not going to lose all the work I put in prior to that."
The Suns, who hadn't lost a game since April 24, couldn't keep up or match up effectively with the height of the Lakers. Amare Stoudemire scored 23 points, Steve Nash added 13 points and 13 assists, and Robin Lopez started at center and scored 14 points in his playoff debut. The Lakers ended Phoenix's six-game win streak by winning their seventh straight playoff game. The Lakers were great in the second half, highlighted by Kobe's 21-point third quarter. When asked how he managed to do so much for his team while injured, he answered: "Just being aggressive, playing my game," Bryant said. "Got shots, took them. Got lanes to the basket, took them."
